South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt etched her name into the history books during the high-stakes ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final against India at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.
The star opener’s phenomenal run-scoring spree throughout the tournament culminated in a new all-time record for the Most Runs in a Single Edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup.
Wolvaardt’s innings in the final propelled her past the previous record, solidifying her status as one of the most consistent batters in the world game.
Wolvaardt finished the tournament with a staggering 571 runs from nine innings at an exceptional average of 71.37. This tally comfortably surpassed the previous record of 509 runs, set by Australia’s Alyssa Healy in the 2022 edition.
The South African skipper’s campaign was defined by remarkable consistency and the ability to perform under pressure, including a spectacular 169 in the semi-final against England.
- New World Record: 571 runs (Most runs in a single Women’s ODI World Cup edition), surpassing Alyssa Healy’s 509 (2022).
- Final Heroics: Scored a magnificent 101 off 98 balls in the final against India.
- Historic Century: Became only the second player ever across both men’s and women’s World Cups (after Alyssa Healy in 2022) to register centuries in both the semi-final and the final of the same edition.
| Player | Runs | Edition |
| Laura Wolvaardt | 571 | 2025 |
| Alyssa Healy | 509 | 2022 |

Despite her valiant efforts, which included a fighting century in the chase of 299, South Africa was ultimately defeated by 52 runs as India secured their maiden Women’s World Cup title. However, Wolvaardt’s individual brilliance remains a highlight of the 2025 World Cup.
