Vidushi Deeksha V Sets World Record with 216-Hour Bharatanatyam Performance

In an awe-inspiring display of endurance, devotion, and artistic mastery, Vidushi Deeksha V, a B.Ed student from Udupi, Karnataka, has set a new world record by performing Bharatanatyam continuously for 216 hours (9 days) — surpassing the previous record of 170 hours. Her remarkable achievement has been officially recognized by the Golden Book of World Records, cementing her place in history as a true icon of classical dance.

Deeksha’s dance marathon began on August 21, 2025, and concluded on August 30, 2025, marking a journey of incredible resilience and devotion. For nine days straight, she performed tirelessly, transforming every movement into an offering of grace and spiritual expression. Despite physical pain, swollen feet, and exhaustion, Deeksha never paused — her dedication remained unshaken.

Her performance was not just a test of stamina but a tribute to the spiritual and cultural depth of Bharatanatyam, one of India’s oldest classical dance forms. The choice of performing for nine days was deeply symbolic, as the number holds sacred significance in Indian tradition — representing divine completeness and devotion.

Deeksha dedicated her entire performance to Dr. G. Shankar Women’s College, where she is a student, as a gesture of gratitude and inspiration for her peers. She was guided and mentored by Guru Shridhar Bannaje and the Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, whose teachings and blessings helped shape her artistic journey.

Her incredible feat has drawn admiration from across the country. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, personally congratulated Deeksha, calling her achievement “a moment of immense pride for Udupi, for Karnataka, and for all of India.”
