Tiny Buffalo ‘Radha’ from Satara Crowned World’s Shortest

A diminutive buffalo named ‘Radha’ from the village of Malwadi in the Man taluka of Satara district has captured global attention by officially being recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Shortest Living Domestic Buffalo.

Radha, a cherished animal of local farmer Aniket Borate, stands at an astonishing height of only three feet (approximately 91.44 cm). This dwarf stature is a natural phenomenon, as the buffalo’s growth was stunted from birth, a distinct contrast to the average size of her breed. Radha is nearly three years old, yet her height has remained fixed at this record-breaking level, making her a local celebrity.

A Star in Satara
Radha, a buffalo of the Murrah breed which typically grows to a much larger size, has become a source of immense pride for her owner and the entire region. The Borate family’s careful application and documentation were instrumental in securing the coveted world record title.

Mr. Borate has received offers for Radha exceeding ₹3.5 lakh (approximately $4,200 USD), but he has firmly declined, stating that Radha is a part of the family and a symbol of pride for his village. Her unique presence has drawn large crowds at local agricultural exhibitions, turning her into an overnight sensation.

This recognition not only brings fame to Malwadi but also highlights the unique genetic diversity found in India’s livestock population.
