The two-year-old trotting sensation Silverstein made harness racing history for the second time this year, tying a world record standard while claiming the $140,845 Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS) Final for rookie male trotters on Tuesday, November 4.
The Chapter Seven gelding, driven by David Miller and trained by Matt Burkholder, finished the mile in a scorching 1:52.4, equaling the world record for a two-year-old trotting gelding on a five-eighths-mile track.
Silverstein, owned by Dark Horse Farm LLC, got away smoothly before making a move for the lead, controlling the pace through the middle fractions. He drew clear down the stretch to secure the four-length victory, capping a highly successful rookie campaign.
“He’s a very handy horse and has a lot of great qualities,” commented an observer. “To tie a world record in a rich final, especially after having already tied one earlier this season, speaks volumes about his talent and consistency.”
Remarkably, this is the second time this fall that Silverstein has entered the record books. Just a month prior, he tied the world record for a gelded freshman trotter over a mile track at The Red Mile in the International Stallion Stakes.
The victory in the KYSS Final marks Silverstein’s third consecutive win. He has now hit the board in 11 of his 12 starts this season, with earnings topping $512,000, solidifying his position as one of the top freshman trotters in the nation.
