Pune Skaters Break 53-Hour World Record

A team of four young, tenacious roller skaters from Pune has carved their names into the record books, demonstrating extraordinary endurance and skill by setting a new world record during an intense, continuous 53-hour skating marathon.

The athletes, all students from Pune schools, battled exhaustion and challenging weather to achieve the historic feat, bringing immense pride to the city and the national sporting community.

The record attempt was organized by the Sivaganga Skating Club in Belgaum, Karnataka, and saw the Pune-based athletes push their physical and mental limits for over two full days and nights.

The Record: The four skaters established a new world record for the “Fastest 100m on Roller Skating Using Two Wheels” as part of the gruelling continuous marathon event.

The Athletes: The record-setting quartet, all students from Pune schools, included:

Koyal Sanjay Gaikwad

Swapnil Santosh Sarvade

Aditi Vishal Ghongde (All three from Annasaheb Magar Secondary School, Pimple Saudagar)

Sukhada Santosh Shete (Vidya Vinay Niketan, Vishal Nagar)

Against the Odds: The skaters showcased remarkable perseverance, managing to complete their record-breaking feat despite facing challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds.

This accomplishment, achieved under the expert guidance of their coaches from Pune’s Dream’Z Skating Club, marks a significant milestone as the first time such a specific endurance record has been accomplished in India. The athletes trained rigorously at facilities like the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in preparation for the monumental physical challenge.

The success of these young athletes highlights the growing talent pool in roller skating across Maharashtra, inspiring countless other young sportsmen and sportswomen across the country.
