The city of Brampton has reached new spiritual heights with the grand unveiling of a majestic 54-foot statue of Lord Shiva at the Bhavani Shankar Mandir — now officially recognized as the tallest Lord Shiva statue in North America.
The unveiling ceremony, held over the weekend of September 6, 2025, marked the culmination of a two-year journey of devotion, artistry, and community spirit. The event featured a vibrant parade, traditional rituals, and drew thousands of devotees, community leaders, and visitors from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Crafted by internationally acclaimed sculptor Naresh Kumar Kumawat, known for his monumental works of Hindu deities across 80 countries, the statue captures Lord Shiva in a serene and powerful traditional pose. Made possible through community donations and fundraising efforts, the project stands as a testament to the strength, unity, and cultural pride of the South Asian diaspora in Canada.
“The statue is more than just a religious symbol — it’s a beacon of cultural identity and spiritual inspiration for generations to come,” said temple officials during the ceremony.
This installation joins Brampton’s growing list of Hindu landmarks, including the 55-foot Lord Hanuman statue at the Sabha Mandir, also designed by Kumawat. Together, these monumental works are transforming the GTA into a global hub for Hindu art and heritage.
Visible from several points across the city, the towering Lord Shiva statue stands as a symbol of faith, resilience, and the enduring cultural legacy of the Indian community in Canada.
