Mumbai Airport Handles 1,036 Flights in 24 Hours, Sets New World Record

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has created history by handling 1,036 flights within just 24 hours, setting a new world record for the highest single-day aircraft movements at a single-runway airport.

The record-breaking feat showcases the airport’s exceptional operational efficiency, precise coordination, and advanced air-traffic management capabilities. CSMIA, already one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world, surpassed its previous peak by optimizing runway scheduling, reducing turnaround time, and streamlining ground operations.

Airport authorities said that the surge included a mix of domestic and international arrivals and departures, all managed seamlessly without delays or congestion. The achievement is being celebrated as a milestone in India’s aviation growth story.

“This is a proud moment for India. Handling over 1,000 flights in a single day at a single-runway airport reflects the dedication of our air-traffic controllers, ground staff, airline partners, and every team involved,” said a senior official at CSMIA.

Aviation experts hailed the accomplishment, noting that such high movement on a single runway is rarely seen anywhere in the world. This record underscores Mumbai’s strategic importance in global air connectivity and highlights India’s rapidly expanding aviation infrastructure.

With passenger numbers rising and new technologies being deployed, Mumbai’s airport is expected to continue setting new benchmarks in operational excellence.
