In an extraordinary display of courage, balance, and dedication, 24-year-old Sumit Tomar from Bijraul village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, has made India proud by setting a Guinness World Record for the Longest No-Hands Motorcycle Wheelie.
A member of the Indian Army Service Corps (ASC) “Tornadoes” Motorcycle Display Team, Sumit performed this incredible stunt on the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, riding his motorcycle 1,714 meters (1.70 km) without touching the handlebars.
The daring feat, completed on December 10, 2023, was officially recognized this Diwali, when Guinness World Records confirmed his achievement. Sumit shattered the previous world record of 918 meters, held by a Swedish rider nearly doubling the distance and setting a new global benchmark in motorcycle stunt performance.
Sumit credited his success to his training, discipline, and teamwork in the Indian Army’s elite “Tornadoes” display unit, known for their precision and skill during national parades and demonstrations. “This record is the result of my hard work and my team’s unwavering support,” he said. “The stunts we perform at the Republic Day parade gave me the motivation and determination to achieve this.”
According to Guinness guidelines, the feat required maintaining the motorcycle’s front wheel in the air while riding continuously on the rear wheel — all without using hands for balance or control.
Sumit’s achievement is more than a world record — it’s a symbol of India’s spirit of determination, courage, and excellence. From a small village in Uttar Pradesh to the global stage, his journey reflects the true “Jai Hind” spirit — proving that with passion and perseverance, even the sky is not the limit.
