The 2025 Skate Canada International concluded with an electrifying final day that saw medals awarded across all disciplines, highlighted by a historic, world-record-breaking performance in the Men’s Singles event.
American sensation and “Quad God,” Ilia Malinin, cemented his dominance by winning the Men’s Singles gold medal and shattering his own world record in the Free Skate.
New World Record (Free Skate): 228.97 points (Breaking his previous record of 227.79 set at the 2024 World Championships).
Total Score: 333.81 points, resulting in an astounding 76-point margin of victory over the competition.
Malinin’s flawless program included six quadruple jumps and secured his spot in the upcoming ISU Grand Prix Final. Estonia’s Aleksandr Selevko took the silver, earning his country’s first-ever Grand Prix medal in Men’s Singles, while Japan’s Kao Miura earned the bronze.
Home Ice Glory for Canadians in Pairs and Ice Dance
Canadian teams delighted the home crowd at the SaskTel Centre by clinching gold in both the Pairs and Ice Dance events:
Ice Dance Gold: Veterans Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier secured their sixth consecutive Skate Canada International title with a total score of 202.89. They edged out the silver medalists, Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius of Lithuania.
Pairs Gold: Reigning World Champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps came from behind to claim their third straight Skate Canada Pairs title, posting a strong free skate score that propelled them past German rivals Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin.
In the Women’s Singles event, the final medals were awarded on Saturday, with Mone Chiba of Japan winning the gold, followed by American Isabeau Levito with silver and Japan’s Ami Nakai with bronze.
The skaters now look ahead to the next stage of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.
