Hubballi Junction World’s Longest Railway Platform

India has added another feather to its cap in the world of infrastructure with the Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction officially recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world’s longest railway platform, stretching an incredible 1,507 meters (4,944 feet).

Located in Hubballi, one of Karnataka’s major cities, the record-breaking platform underscores India’s growing ambition to lead in global transport innovation. The station, which serves as a key junction under the South Western Railway zone, connects major routes leading to Bengaluru, Hosapete, Vasco-Da-Gama, and Belagavi, cementing its importance as a central rail hub in southern India.

The title was officially conferred in March 2023, following the completion of a major redevelopment project aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and operational efficiency. The upgraded platform can now accommodate multiple long-distance trains simultaneously, significantly reducing congestion — a common challenge in India’s busy railway system.

“This achievement is a symbol of Indian Railways’ modernisation drive,” said an official from South Western Railway. “Hubballi Junction reflects the perfect balance of heritage, innovation, and functionality.”

Beyond its technical milestone, Hubballi Junction plays a strategic role in connecting five major states — Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu — serving both passenger and freight trains. The expansion project was part of Indian Railways’ broader mission to decongest major terminals and strengthen connectivity across key economic corridors.

Once overshadowed by its neighbouring metropolis, Bengaluru, Hubballi is now emerging as a smart urban and transport hub. The world-record platform not only enhances the city’s identity but also showcases India’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure that meets the demands of its growing population.

The recognition by Guinness World Records stands as a proud moment for India — reaffirming its stature as a nation that blends scale, speed, and smart engineering to build the transport systems of the future.
