A dedication that transcends mere gaming has earned one Hungarian man a staggering new global title. Szabolcs Csépe (known online as “GrassHopper”) has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the longest video game marathon on a rhythm game title by playing Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) for an unbelievable 144 consecutive hours—a full six days.
The grueling marathon took place in Kecskemét, Hungary, between October 23 and 29, last year, but the official certification was announced this week.
Dancing to Over 3,000 Songs
The 34-year-old IT engineer spent the equivalent of six full days on the DDR platform, surpassing the previous long-standing record of 138 hours and 34 seconds, which was set on Just Dance in 2015.
During his relentless dance session, Csepe:
Danced to an estimated 3,000 different songs.
Burned more than 22,000 calories.
Secured two world records: the longest video game marathon overall and the longest rhythm game marathon.
Csepe, who has been playing DDR for almost 20 years, told Guinness World Records that this attempt was by far his most physically demanding experience, requiring extensive physical training and the support of a small staff for hydration and nutrition management.
“With the longest videogame marathon record finally becoming part of my collection, I feel thrilled! I managed to complete a multi-year bucket list that connects human achievements to my favourite video games together,” Csepe shared.
His achievement highlights the extreme physical and mental endurance required in marathon gaming, cementing his place in the history of rhythm gaming.
