GAC Hyptec SSR Sets Guinness World Record for Fastest Electric Drift at 213.523 km/h

Chinese automaker GAC’s Hyptec SSR (formerly known as the Hyper SSR) has officially claimed a Guinness World Record for the fastest electric vehicle drift, reaching a speed of 213.523 km/h. The announcement was made through GAC Aion’s official social media channels on Monday.

The record, certified under Guinness’ “Fastest Electric Vehicle Drift” category, required participants to maintain a drift angle of at least 30 degrees while exceeding 207 km/h over a minimum distance of 50 meters. The Hyptec SSR exceeded those benchmarks, recording a verified drift speed of 213.523 km/h.

The record-breaking drift was executed by professional driver Ye Zhicheng, who highlighted the challenge of balancing driver control and electronic stability systems at such extreme speeds. The attempt was conducted during a dedicated closed-course test session and will be featured in an upcoming promotional short film tied to China’s 15th National Games.

GAC Group Chairman Feng Xingya hailed the achievement as a significant milestone in China’s advancement in high-performance automotive engineering. “This record showcases the technological precision and performance capability of Chinese-developed electric supercars,” he stated. Guinness World Records independently verified and certified the result.

Launched in late 2022, the Hyptec SSR is GAC’s first mass-produced electric supercar under the company’s Hyptec (formerly Hyper) sub-brand. It is offered in three variants — Standard, Ultimate, and Track — priced respectively at 1.286 million yuan (≈ $176,000 USD), 1.386 million yuan (≈ $190,000 USD), and 1.686 million yuan (≈ $231,000 USD).

Under the hood, the Hyptec SSR features a tri-motor setup, including a front permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 70 kW (peak 320 kW) and two rear motors rated at 60 kW and 70 kW (peaks of 260 kW and 320 kW). The combined system produces a peak output exceeding 900 kW.

Performance benchmarks include a 0–100 km/h time of just 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 251 km/h, with acceleration forces reaching up to 1.7 G — placing the Hyptec SSR among the world’s quickest production electric vehicles.

With its new world record, GAC’s Hyptec SSR cements its place as a symbol of China’s growing prowess in the global high-performance EV segment
