Indian cricket star Deepti Sharma, celebrated as the Women’s ODI World Cup Player of the Tournament, received a grand honour at the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Lucknow as she was formally inducted into the force as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the sports quota.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Deepti’s journey — from representing India on the world stage to stepping into public service. DGP Rajeev Krishna, who felicitated her during the event, praised her immense contribution to Indian cricket and called her an inspiration for countless young athletes, especially girls across Uttar Pradesh.
Senior officials highlighted the state government’s ongoing commitment to supporting sportspersons and acknowledged how Deepti’s achievements have elevated the pride of both the police force and the state. They emphasized that her transition from international athlete to police officer reflects the government’s dedication to recognizing and empowering sporting talent.
Deepti expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the UP Police department, and her family — with special mention of her brother Sumit Sharma, who has played a vital role in her cricketing journey. She described wearing the police uniform for the very first time as a moment she would “never forget.”
Earlier in the day, Deepti also met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, underscoring the government’s admiration for her World Cup heroics and her commitment to serving the state.
Her induction stands as a powerful message of encouragement for budding sportspersons and marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of India’s finest all-rounders.
