YouTuber Reaches the End of the Minecraft World After 14 Years of Gameplay

After an epic journey spanning 14 and a half years, Minecraft YouTuber and stream icon Kurt “Kurtjmac” Mac has finally reached the fabled Far Lands, a legendary glitched area marking the edge of the game’s old world map.

The monumental achievement, completed on October 4, 2025, concludes the “Far Lands or Bust” (FLoB) series, one of the longest-running, most dedicated projects in video game history.

Kurtjmac began his journey in March 2011, walking continuously in a single direction (west) in an older version of Minecraft, Beta 1.7.3. The goal was to reach the Far Lands, a bizarre, broken terrain that appears at a staggering 12,550,821 blocks from the world’s center due to an integer overflow bug in the game’s code—a bug that has since been patched out of modern versions.

The challenge was inspired by the original Minecraft creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, who once proclaimed the trip was “impossible.”

The final moments were streamed live to a massive, emotional community that has followed his slow, deliberate progress for nearly a decade and a half.

The FLoB series became far more than a simple gaming challenge. Since its inception, Kurtjmac has used the platform to raise money for charity, turning his long, meditative walks into a massive fundraiser.

Over the years, the “Far Lands or Bust” community has raised over $500,000 for various charitable organizations, including Child’s Play, Direct Relief, and the Equal Justice Initiative.

His persistence has earned him a Guinness World Record for the longest journey in Minecraft without using cheats or exploits. Although other players have reached the Far Lands faster, often by exploiting the game’s Nether dimension, Kurtjmac’s commitment to the long, overworld walk stands as a unique testament to patience and dedication in the gaming world. He now plans to continue the series by exploring the bizarre, newly reached terrain.
