The world’s oldest living man, João Marinho Neto, celebrated an incredible milestone on October 5th, ringing in his 113th birthday with a joyous party surrounded by his extensive family.
The Brazilian supercentenarian, who has lived through two World Wars and countless other historical moments since his birth in 1912, shared a remarkably simple secret to his extraordinary longevity: a life full of love.
“Living peacefully, enjoying a little wine, and always being grateful for life,” he has said, adding that being surrounded by good people and keeping loved ones close is the key to his happiness and health.
The superlative senior marked the special occasion with a bash planned by his family and chronicled by supercentenarian experts LongeviQuest. Photos from the celebration show Mr. Marinho Neto—who became the world’s oldest man in late 2024—sitting proudly behind a gigantic, beautifully decorated cake, which was inscribed with the Portuguese phrase “o homem mais velho do mundo” (the oldest man in the world).
Mr. Marinho Neto’s family tree includes six living children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Their presence at the party underscored his belief that strong family bonds are the true key to a long and happy life.
