World’s Largest Maritime Museum Taking Shape at Lothal

The Government of India has reviewed the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat — a project that, once completed, will be the world’s largest maritime museum.

The ambitious complex aims to highlight India’s ancient maritime traditions, tracing the country’s seafaring history from the Indus Valley Civilization to modern times. Spread across a vast area, the NMHC will serve not only as a global tourism destination but also as a center for research, education, and skill development in maritime studies.

Officials noted that the project will integrate advanced technologies for interactive learning, including digital galleries, virtual exhibits, and immersive experiences showcasing shipbuilding, navigation, and trade practices.

Once inaugurated, the NMHC is expected to position India prominently on the global cultural and maritime map, offering both domestic and international visitors a unique window into the nation’s rich oceanic heritage.
