Nagpur’s Double-Decker Viaduct Enters Guinness World Records as World’s Longest

Nagpur has once again etched its name in the record books, with its double-decker viaduct being officially certified by Guinness World Records as the longest in the world in the metro category. The announcement was made at a ceremony where Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the achievement as a testament to India’s engineering prowess and rapid infrastructure development.

The record-breaking structure, part of the Nagpur Metro’s Kamptee Road route, spans an impressive 5.62 kilometers (approximately 3.5 miles). It is a unique engineering marvel, integrating a metro rail line at the top, a highway flyover in the middle, and an existing road at the ground level, all supported on a single column. This innovative design not only optimizes limited urban space but also significantly reduces traffic congestion.

At the official function, CM Fadnavis congratulated Maha Metro and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for their collaborative effort. He praised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relentless drive of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who has been a key figure in boosting infrastructure across the country.

“This Double Decker Viaduct is more than an infrastructure project—it is a symbol of engineering excellence and urban innovation,” Fadnavis stated. “With the Guinness World Record, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited has created a proud milestone for India.”

The achievement is not the first for Nagpur’s metro system. A previous 3.14-kilometer double-decker viaduct on Wardha Road had also secured a Guinness World Record. The latest recognition further solidifies Nagpur’s reputation as a hub for groundbreaking urban transport projects and highlights the nation’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure.
