In a major leap forward for public healthcare in Central India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raipur has become the first government hospital in the region to acquire a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility. The new system, named ‘Devhast’ (Hand of God), was inaugurated on Saturday by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who hailed it as a historic milestone for the state’s medical infrastructure.
The robotic surgery system, equipped with a dual-console da Vinci Xi Surgical System, allows surgeons to perform complex, minimally invasive procedures with unparalleled precision. The technology provides a high-definition 3D view and a range of motion far exceeding the human hand, which is expected to lead to faster patient recovery, reduced pain, and shorter hospital stays.
The move is a game-changer for patients in Chhattisgarh and neighboring states, who previously had to travel to major metro cities for advanced, robotic-assisted surgeries. With the new facility, world-class treatment is now accessible and affordable, bridging a significant gap in regional healthcare services.
During the inauguration, CM Sai said, “This is the beginning of a new chapter for public healthcare in our state. By introducing robotic-assisted surgery, we are ensuring that patients have timely access to advanced treatment. I am confident this program will not only benefit patients but also strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position as a hub for medical education and innovation.”
In addition to patient care, the facility will serve as a hub for academic excellence, providing training and research opportunities for postgraduate and resident doctors. The system includes advanced simulation platforms that will allow trainees to gain hands-on expertise in a supervised environment, preparing the next generation of surgeons for the future of medicine.
