In a landmark moment for India’s digital transformation, Lucknow has officially become the country’s first-ever “AI City”, after receiving a record-breaking ₹10,732 crore investment under the IndiaAI Mission — the highest technology infrastructure grant ever allotted to a single city.
The initiative aims to turn the Uttar Pradesh capital into a national hub for artificial intelligence, equipped with state-of-the-art data centers, AI research labs, smart governance systems, AI-powered healthcare, and education platforms, along with autonomous public services and next-gen security networks.
Union Minister for Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced the project during the unveiling ceremony at the UP Digital Summit, calling it a “historic leap toward India’s AI-powered future.”
“Lucknow will not just lead the way in AI deployment — it will define how technology can uplift urban life, governance, and innovation ecosystems,” he said.
Key components of the AI City will include:
- AI Innovation Zones for startups and R&D
- AI-integrated traffic and transport systems
- Autonomous citizen services through chatbot governance
- AI-assisted hospitals and diagnostics
- Smart education platforms in government schools
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the mission as a “tech renaissance” for the state, emphasizing job creation, tech literacy, and global investment opportunities.
Experts believe this move will attract international tech giants, foster homegrown talent, and position India as a serious contender in the global AI race.
