10-Year-Old Sets World Record by Reciting 280 Digits of Pi in One Minute on Pi Day

On Pi Day, celebrated annually on March 14, a 10-year-old from Bristol, UK, captured the world’s attention by setting a new Guinness World Records title for the most decimal places of Pi recalled in one minute.

Memory master Alberto Davila Aragon achieved the impressive feat on February 20, 2025, by successfully reciting 280 digits of the mathematical constant.

Aragon’s journey to the record books began in March 2024 with a school competition. The prize for memorizing the most digits of Pi? The chance to “pie” his headmaster in the face. After winning the competition by recalling 150 digits, his success motivated him to aim for the world record.

For his official attempt, Aragon used rhythms and patterns to help him with his impressive recall, a technique he developed through his love of music and singing. He performed the feat at the Clifton Observatory in Bristol, a location that holds personal significance for him, with professional timekeepers and a mathematician present to verify the record.
