“Padma Bhushan Conferred Posthumously on Eminent Statesman Shri Satyabrata Mookherjee”

The Government of India has posthumously conferred the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third-highest civilian award, upon Shri Satyabrata Mookherjee for his exemplary service in Public Affairs. A respected leader from West Bengal, Shri Mookherjee’s legacy is marked by integrity, statesmanship, and a lifelong commitment to national service.

Popularly known as Chiran Babu, Shri Mookherjee began his illustrious career as a lawyer and quickly rose through the ranks to become Solicitor General of India. His legal expertise and dedication to public causes made him a respected figure in both judicial and political spheres.

Shri Mookherjee served as a Member of Parliament and held important portfolios in the Union Government. He was the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, and later the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, playing a vital role in shaping India’s industrial and economic policies during his tenure.

He was known for his clear vision, administrative acumen, and ability to balance development with public welfare.

Beyond politics, Shri Mookherjee remained committed to public service, justice, and democratic values. His contributions to legal reform, governance, and industrial development earned him wide respect across party lines.

The posthumous Padma Bhushan honours a life lived in service to law, people, and the nation.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and tributes, stating:
