In a landmark moment for India’s maritime tourism, the country’s first international cruise terminal at Mazgaon (Mazgaor), Mumbai, is all set to be inaugurated on April 21.
Named the International Cruise Terminal – Mumbai (ICTM), the state-of-the-art facility is expected to transform India into a global cruise tourism hub, offering world-class infrastructure for luxury liners and international travelers.
Developed under the Sagarmala Programme by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the terminal boasts:
- Capacity to handle 1 million passengers annually
- Berthing space for world’s largest cruise ships
- 37,100 sq. m. terminal area with modern customs, immigration, and retail services
- Seamless connectivity to airports, metro, and Mumbai Port Trust
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who will lead the inauguration, called the terminal a “gateway to blue economy growth” and said it marks a bold step toward sustainable maritime tourism.
Economic & Tourism Boost
With this launch, India joins a select group of nations with dedicated cruise terminals, expecting to generate thousands of jobs and attract global cruise liners from Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
The terminal’s debut aligns with the government’s goal to make India a preferred cruise destination, and plans are underway to develop similar terminals in Goa, Kochi, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam.
“The Mazgaon terminal is not just a building — it’s a symbol of India’s readiness to lead in cruise tourism,” said an official from Mumbai Port Authority.
The first cruise ship to dock at the terminal will be the Cordelia Cruises’ Empress, carrying international passengers from Dubai.
