Jersey’s Record-Breaking Rowers Honoured in Heroic Homecoming

The island of Jersey erupted in celebration as four heroic women rowers received a triumphant homecoming after completing one of the most grueling challenges in the world — a transatlantic race.

Julie Brady, Helene Monpetit, Rosemary Satchwell, and Alison Smithurst — together known as the Intrepid 232 crew — were honoured at a special ceremony in Royal Square on Saturday. The event drew hundreds of supporters who cheered the team’s extraordinary achievement.

In February, the quartet completed a 58-day journey across the Atlantic Ocean, officially becoming the oldest female four-person crew ever to complete the race, widely regarded as the world’s toughest rowing event.

With grit, determination, and teamwork, the women not only conquered 3,000 miles of open ocean but also etched their names into the record books and Jersey’s history.

“It’s been the adventure of a lifetime,” said Julie Brady. “To come home to this level of support is overwhelming and heartwarming.”

Their story has inspired countless others on the island and beyond — proving that age is no barrier when courage leads the way.
