Australian Farm Sets World Record with Giant Blueberry the Size of a Ping-Pong Ball

An Australian farm has smashed the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest blueberry, unveiling a colossal fruit measuring nearly 4cm in diameter and weighing 20.4 grams—roughly ten times the size of a typical berry.

Grown by the Costa Group at their farm in Corindi, northern New South Wales, the blueberry was picked in November and preserved in a freezer for verification. It surpassed the previous record of 16.2 grams, held by a grower in Western Australia.

The record-breaking berry is part of a new variety called Eterna, selectively bred to meet growing consumer demand for larger, juicier fruit. Lead horticulturalist Brad Hocking said the team was “stoked” by the discovery, calling it a surprise despite expectations of a strong yield.

“We knew we had a good crop, but it wasn’t until we put this one on the scale that we realised what we had,” Hocking told the BBC.

The berry’s impressive size reflects a combination of genetics and ideal growing conditions, and the Costa Group hopes it’s a sign of even bigger berries to come.
