Amanda Yates Breaks World Record by Rowing 36 Marathons in 36 Days

Amanda Yates, 55, has made history by rowing the equivalent of 36 marathons in 36 consecutive days, setting a new world record and raising funds for a cause close to her heart.

Taking on the intense challenge to support MAD Challenges — an organisation that empowers people living with chronic illness, injury, or disability through adventurous activities — Yates completed her final marathon row on Wednesday, capping off more than a month of physical and mental endurance.

“I feel really good, but a little bit emotional,” she said after finishing. “There were tough days… I was ok to start with, but this last week has been particularly tough.”

The cumulative effort saw her row over 1,500 km, battling fatigue, soreness, and the mental pressure of daily endurance rowing. Her determination not only secured her a place in the record books but also shone a spotlight on the power of resilience and the importance of inclusive adventure programs.

Amanda’s record-breaking feat has inspired supporters across the UK, with donations continuing to pour in for MAD Challenges.
