“World Record Set as 900+ Play Monopoly in Memory of Young Girl”

In a heartwarming tribute to a young girl whose life was cut tragically short, more than 900 people gathered in Sydney to play Monopoly, setting a new Guinness World Record and celebrating the memory of six-year-old Alegra Vasiliou.

Alegra, who passed away in 2017 after battling brain cancer, adored playing Monopoly with her parents. To honour her joyful spirit and love for the iconic board game, her parents, in collaboration with the Little Legs Foundation, organised the record-breaking event.

Held on March 30, the event saw 918 participants seated across 150 tables, playing Monopoly simultaneously. This effort not only broke the world record for the largest number of people playing Monopoly at once but also served as a powerful act of remembrance and advocacy.

“We wanted to celebrate Alegra’s life in a way that reflected her happiness and the love she had for family games,” said her mother, Tia Vasiliou. “This event is not only for her, but for every child and family touched by brain cancer.”

The Little Legs Foundation, established in Alegra’s name, is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for childhood brain cancer, one of the deadliest forms of the disease. The Monopoly marathon served both as a heartfelt memorial and a call to action for increased research and support.

The Guinness World Records team officially recognized the attempt, marking it a monumental success.

Smiles, laughter, and a few competitive streaks filled the venue, turning grief into purpose and play into legacy.
