Oti Uttam has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records 2025

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s 2024 Bengali film Oti Uttam has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records 2025 for the “longest use of reused archival footage” in a feature film. The film incorporates 24 minutes and 48 seconds of recycled footage featuring the legendary actor Uttam Kumar, seamlessly integrated into the narrative through advanced visual effects.

Oti Uttam is a fantasy romantic comedy that follows Krishnendu, a Ph.D. scholar researching Uttam Kumar’s iconic smile. In his quest to win over his love interest, Sohini, Krishnendu summons the spirit of Uttam Kumar through a planchette session, leading to unexpected complications when Sohini becomes enamored with the legendary actor’s spirit. The film also features Gourab Chatterjee, Uttam Kumar’s real-life grandson, in a significant role.

The achievement is a testament to the innovative use of technology in cinema, allowing a revered actor to be posthumously featured in a contemporary film. Mukherji expressed his pride in the recognition, stating that he never imagined he would one day find an entry in the Limca Book of Records.

Oti Uttam was released on March 22, 2024, and has been celebrated for its creative storytelling and technical prowess.
