In a celebration of community spirit and pints poured with pride, pubs across Buckinghamshire have played a starring role in setting a new Guinness World Record — for the largest synchronized pub quiz ever held.
The record-breaking event took place over the weekend, with more than 300 pubs across the UK joining forces to host a simultaneously timed quiz, all connected via livestream. Over 60 pubs from Buckinghamshire proudly took part, bringing together locals, trivia lovers, and first-time quizzers for a night of friendly competition and historic achievement.
“It was an incredible evening — the energy, the laughter, and the sense of being part of something bigger was just fantastic,” said Tina Marshall, manager of The Fox & Hounds in Aylesbury. “To know we were part of a world record makes it even more special.”
The quiz, which lasted two hours, featured a mix of general knowledge, pop culture, history, and, of course, beer-themed questions. Teams from Buckinghamshire pubs such as The Crown, The Bull, and The Red Lion were among the standout performers, with some scoring near-perfect marks.
Organizers confirmed that over 70,000 participants nationwide took part, smashing the previous record of 34,000 set in Australia in 2018.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator was stationed at one of the central pubs and verified the record using synchronized timestamps, official counts, and digital data collected during the event.
“This was a monumental coordination effort. The participation from Buckinghamshire was especially impressive,” said Rebecca Marsh, a representative from Guinness World Records. “The spirit of the pub quiz is alive and thriving.”
Beyond the record, the event also gave a much-needed boost to the local hospitality industry, bringing in packed houses and creating a sense of unity across towns and villages.
“After the tough years of the pandemic, events like this are a lifeline,” said George Patel, owner of The Stag Inn in High Wycombe. “It brought old friends together, drew new faces in, and reminded everyone of how magical a good pub night can be.”
Organizers have hinted that this may become an annual tradition, possibly with new record categories involving music, food, or even the largest pub singalong.
