New Delhi, April 8, 2025 – Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi, recorded the highest freight traffic among Indian airports during the financial year 2018–19, handling an impressive 1,042,950 tonnes of cargo.
In second place was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai, which managed 963,460 tonnes of freight traffic during the same period.
This milestone highlights Delhi’s growing importance as a major logistics hub in India. IGIA’s modern cargo infrastructure, efficient handling systems, and connectivity to global destinations have contributed significantly to its leading position.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s CSMIA continues to be a vital center for freight movement, especially in industries such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and gems and jewellery.
The surge in air cargo operations at both airports reflects India’s expanding trade and e-commerce sectors, driving the need for faster, more reliable transportation networks.
