The sacred city of Ayodhya set a new world record with an awe-inspiring display of 1,576,955 oil lamps (diyas) lit across the city, making it the largest ever Diwali oil lamp display. The record-breaking feat was orchestrated by the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with the District Administration of Ayodhya and Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University.
This magnificent display was created to mark Diwali, the festival of lights, which holds deep significance for Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains worldwide. Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The diya, a small clay lamp filled with oil and a cotton wick, is traditionally lit during the festival as a symbol of this triumph.
The lamps were arranged throughout the city, including prominent landmarks and temples, casting a mesmerizing glow over Ayodhya’s streets. The visual spectacle attracted thousands of visitors and onlookers, who witnessed the breathtaking sight of millions of lights shining brightly in the evening sky.
The previous record for the largest oil lamp display was also set in India, but this new achievement surpasses all previous attempts, further cementing Ayodhya’s reputation as a key destination for Diwali celebrations. The event was a true celebration of Indian culture, unity, and devotion.
This historic event has now secured its place in the Guinness World Records, adding to India’s rich legacy of record-breaking feats. The display also highlighted the power of community participation, with locals, students, and volunteers coming together to contribute to the spectacular event.
As Ayodhya glowed with millions of lights, the city’s residents and visitors celebrated not only the victory of light over darkness but also the shared spirit of togetherness that Diwali brings.
