“Grounded by Borders: Nigerian Woman’s World Record Dream Highlights Passport Privilege”

Alma Asinobi, a 26-year-old Nigerian travel content creator, recently attempted to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all seven continents. Despite her determination and meticulous planning, her endeavor was hindered by visa delays and travel disruptions, underscoring the challenges faced by travelers from countries with limited passport mobility.

Asinobi’s journey began on March 15, 2025, with the goal of completing the trip in under 64 hours, aiming to surpass the existing record. However, unforeseen obstacles, including visa rejections and flight cancellations, extended her travel time to 71 hours and 35 minutes, falling short of her target.

“I know that I could have beaten this record but for all the hurdles I had to face,” Asinobi shared on social media. Her experience has sparked conversations about ‘passport privilege,’ highlighting the disparities in global mobility based on nationality.

Asinobi’s attempt was not just about setting a record; it was a statement against systemic barriers that restrict travel freedom for citizens of countries like Nigeria. Her journey has inspired many and brought attention to the need for more equitable travel policies worldwide.

Despite the setbacks, Asinobi remains committed to advocating for change and empowering others to pursue their travel dreams, regardless of the limitations imposed by their passports.
