A Danish traveler, Lars Jensen, finds himself in an unexpected pause in his journey in Hong Kong, just nine countries shy of setting a new world record for visiting the most nations in a single year. His incredible adventure has taken him across continents, but due to unforeseen travel restrictions and logistical challenges, he is now stuck in the bustling city of Hong Kong.
Lars, who embarked on the journey in early 2025 with the goal of visiting 150 countries, was making rapid progress towards his record-breaking attempt. He had visited 141 countries in just over 10 months when the new travel regulations, combined with some personal health concerns, halted his plans. With travel bans and borders in flux, Lars now faces a unique situation — he is just a few nations away from completing his mission.
“I’ve always loved the idea of exploring the world and seeing as many cultures as possible. Getting so close to the record was thrilling, but right now, I’m focusing on making the most of my time here in Hong Kong and finding the right time to continue,” Lars said during an interview from his temporary home in the city.
The Danish adventurer, known for his meticulous planning and ability to juggle time zones and flights, is now engaging with fans through social media to keep spirits high during this unforeseen delay. He has been documenting his experiences and sharing insights into his travels, from tasting exotic cuisines to meeting local artisans, making his followers feel part of the journey.
While Lars waits, he is still determined to continue his quest to break the record, which is currently held by a German traveler, who visited 154 countries in a single calendar year. For now, Hong Kong is a place of both frustration and reflection for Lars, but he remains optimistic that his adventure will continue soon.
“It’s all about patience and timing. Once the borders open and everything aligns, I’ll be back on track. For now, I’m enjoying the beauty and culture of Hong Kong,” he added.
Lars’ journey has captured the imaginations of travelers worldwide, inspiring many to take a leap and explore new horizons — no matter the challenges.
