Donald Gorske, a 71-year-old retired corrections officer from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, has set a Guinness World Record by consuming over 35,000 Big Mac hamburgers. His devotion to the McDonald’s signature sandwich began on May 17, 1972, when he purchased his first car and ate three Big Macs that day. Since then, Gorske has maintained a routine of eating at least two Big Macs daily, averaging 14 per week.
Gorske’s commitment to his favorite food is meticulous; he has documented each burger with receipts and containers, storing them in his attic and basement. Remarkably, despite his unconventional diet, he has maintained normal cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing around 185 pounds, Gorske attributes his health to a combination of his dietary habits and daily six-mile walks.
His passion for Big Macs has earned him a dedicated booth at his local McDonald’s, the same spot where he proposed to his wife, Mary. Gorske’s unique story has been featured in various media outlets and documentaries, including “Super Size Me” (2004) and “Don Gorske: Mac Daddy” (2005). He also authored the book “22,477 Big Macs” in 2008, detailing his journey.
While Gorske’s achievement has garnered admiration and curiosity, he advises others not to attempt breaking his record, emphasizing that a genuine love for Big Macs is essential for maintaining such a diet.
