That’s a fascinating early example of solar energy innovation in India!
Pandit Sri Krishna Joshi and ‘Bhanu Taap’ (Heliotherm)
Born in Almora, he later lived in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh.
Invented ‘Bhanu Taap’, an apparatus for harnessing solar heat as an alternative to fire.
Also called the ‘heliotherm’, it was a pioneering solar thermal device.
Patented in 1900 and awarded a gold medal at the Industrial Exhibition of Calcutta (1901).
Early solar energy application in India, ahead of its time.
Showed how renewable energy could replace conventional fuels.
Paved the way for modern solar thermal technology.
