Uttar Pradesh embarked on an ambitious initiative to set a Guinness World Record through the ‘Swachh Maha Kumbh’ cleanliness drive in Prayagraj. This monumental effort, envisioned by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, mobilized over 15,000 sanitation workers in a synchronized operation across four zones of the Maha Kumbh Mela area.
The primary objective of this campaign was to enhance hygiene standards during the Maha Kumbh, a significant Hindu festival that attracts millions of devotees. By organizing such a large-scale cleanliness drive, the state aimed to promote environmental consciousness and set a new benchmark for public sanitation efforts.
This initiative follows a precedent set during the Kumbh Mela in 2019, where the Prayagraj Mela Authority achieved a Guinness World Record for “Most people sweeping the floor (multiple venues),” with 10,180 participants.
The ‘Swachh Maha Kumbh’ of 2025 sought to surpass this record, reflecting the state’s ongoing commitment to cleanliness and public health.
In addition to the mass sweeping event, the Maha Kumbh 2025 organizers planned other record-setting activities, including a large-scale handprint painting event and the operation of 500 shuttle buses in a single day. These efforts underscore the comprehensive approach taken by the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure the success of the festival while promoting sustainability and cultural heritage.
The ‘Swachh Maha Kumbh’ not only aimed to secure a place in the Guinness World Records but also to inspire communities worldwide to prioritize cleanliness and environmental responsibility during large gatherings.
