Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ event at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. This grand celebration will feature a Jhumur dance performance by approximately 8,500 youths from Assam’s tea garden communities. The event aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the tea tribes, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Assam’s tea industry.
In addition to PM Modi, the event will be graced by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and ambassadors from 60 countries, marking a significant moment for Assam on the global stage. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced cash incentives for all participants, including Rs 25,000 for each dancer and master trainer, and Rs 30,000 for expert trainers. Furthermore, each tea garden will receive Rs 25,000 to establish cultural clubs, promoting ongoing cultural activities within these communities.
The Jhumur dance, integral to Assam’s tea tribes, reflects their unity and cultural identity. This event not only celebrates their legacy but also positions Assam as a cultural and economic hub, coinciding with the upcoming Advantage Assam Investment Summit on February 25-26.
Arrangements have been made to live-stream the performance to tea garden areas across the state, ensuring wider participation and viewership. This initiative underscores Assam’s commitment to preserving and promoting its diverse cultural heritage on both national and international platforms.
