State with Lowest Sex Ratio

Haryana has a sex ratio of 879 females per 1,000 males, making it the state with the lowest sex ratio in India. This disparity is often attributed to socio-cultural factors, including gender preference and practices such as female foeticide. In certain parts of the state, there has historically been a strong preference for male children, leading to gender imbalances.

However, Haryana has been actively working to address these issues through various awareness campaigns and policy initiatives aimed at improving the status of women and promoting gender equality. The state government has introduced strict laws against female foeticide and gender-based discrimination, and has also launched programs like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, which encourages the education and protection of girls.

Despite these challenges, there have been signs of progress in improving the gender ratio in recent years. Efforts to change societal attitudes toward gender, increase the value placed on girls, and promote women’s empowerment continue to be central to addressing Haryana’s sex ratio imbalance.
