Least densely populated Union Territory

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a population density of 46 persons per square kilometer, making it the least densely populated Union Territory in India. This low density is due to the islands’ relatively small population combined with a large, diverse, and often isolated geographical area. The Union Territory is made up of over 500 islands, with many of them uninhabited or sparsely populated. A significant portion of the land is also protected forest, which adds to its low population density.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are known for their rich biodiversity, including unique marine life, coral reefs, and tropical forests. The islands’ stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and pristine natural environments make it a popular destination for eco-tourism, offering opportunities for activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, and wildlife observation.

The Union Territory is also home to several indigenous tribes, some of which have had limited contact with the outside world. These tribes, such as the Great Andamanese, Jarwa, and Sentinalese, live in isolation and maintain traditional lifestyles that have been largely unaffected by modern developments.

The islands’ isolation, rich natural resources, and protected status make it an area of both cultural and ecological importance, though the remoteness and lack of widespread infrastructure contribute to its relatively low population density.
