Least densely populated state

Arunachal Pradesh, located in the northeastern part of India, has a population density of only 17 persons per square kilometer, making it the least densely populated state in the country. The state’s sparse population can be attributed to its vast geographical area, challenging terrain, and relatively underdeveloped infrastructure, which have historically limited migration and settlement.

Arunachal Pradesh is known for its vast forests, mountainous landscapes, and tribal communities, all of which contribute to its low population density. The state is rich in biodiversity, with numerous species of flora and fauna that thrive in its diverse ecosystems, ranging from tropical forests to alpine meadows. The rugged terrain, which includes the Eastern Himalayas, also makes large-scale habitation and urbanization difficult.

The state’s tribal communities, which form a significant portion of its population, maintain unique traditions and lifestyles. Arunachal Pradesh is home to over 26 major tribes, each with its own language, culture, and customs. These communities often live in remote villages, further contributing to the state’s low population density.

Despite its low population density, Arunachal Pradesh is known for its natural beauty and cultural diversity. The state is also gaining recognition for its potential in eco-tourism, with visitors coming to explore its pristine landscapes, wildlife, and indigenous cultures. However, the lack of infrastructure and connectivity remains a challenge to its full development.
