Dorchester’s most ghosts world record bid spooked by rain

Hundreds of people have donned white sheets in a bid to break a world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as ghosts.

Families braved heavy rain to attend the ghoulish gathering in Dorchester’s Brewery Square on Saturday afternoon.

They hoped to top the 560 record set in 2017 by a school in Ireland, but adverse weather spooked some participants and only 204 turned up.

The attempt was part of a Halloween fun day organised by Discover Dorchester.

Before the event, Dorchester tourism development officer Matilda Manley said: “Dorchester has long been known for its array of ghosts and horrible histories.

“This Halloween half term was the perfect time to celebrate this and bring all our ghosts together in one spot.”
