In a remarkable feat of endurance and community spirit, Kolkatans have entered the Limca Book of Records by jogging a staggering 5,935 km on treadmills over the span of one week, as part of the “Love Your Heart” initiative by Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals.
Organized ahead of World Heart Day, the campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of exercise in preventing heart disease. Over seven days, treadmills were set up in various communities across the city, inviting residents to walk or jog for a cause.
The city’s spirited participation shattered the previous Limca record of 4,056 km, setting a new benchmark for collective fitness efforts.
“We are extremely proud to have achieved this record for such a significant cause,” said Rupali Basu, President and CEO of Apollo Hospitals Group (Eastern Region). “What makes us even happier is the massive participation, which helped spread awareness about heart health on such a large scale.”
Basu emphasized that heart disease can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender, and urged people to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular exercise and avoiding harmful habits.
This milestone not only reflects Kolkata’s enthusiasm for fitness but also stands as an inspiring reminder that small steps—quite literally—can lead to big changes for community health.
